FSBL Travel Tryouts / House League Evaluation Schedule
Travel Team Tryouts &
House League Evaluation Schedule

Please review the evaluation schedule below and determine the appropriate session for your child to attend.  All players in FSBL must attend an evaluation session in order to be placed on a house league team for the 2017 - 2018 basketball season.

All interested 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls are welcome to try out for the travel teams.  The travel teams are generally for players who have played organized basketball for a number of years and possess above average basketball skills.  Only players who attend Farmwell Station Middle School - or home schoolers who live within the FSMS school boundaries - are eligible to try out for the travel teams.  If you attend another middle school, you are not eligible to try out for the Farmwell Station Middle School Travel Teams.  In order to tryout, players must be officially registered for the league and payment received before the tryout begins.  This can be online or in person at the tryouts.  Players and parents should consider three issues:
1) The majority of travel league games are played on Sundays (the majority of house league games are generally held on Saturdays);
2) Travel teams practice twice a week (house league teams practice once a week);
3) Players who make the travel team are required to purchase their own custom uniform.  Players are responsible for the uniform cost in excess of the registration fee uniform allocation.

*Below is the tentative travel tryout schedule and the tentative house league evaluation schedule.  Locations of each tryout or evaluation are subject to change.  Players should arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time.

6th Grade Boys Travel Tryouts Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 6:30 - 8:30pm FSMS Main

8th Grade Boys Travel Tryouts Sunday, October 1, 2017 6:30 - 8:30pm FSMS Main

FSBL House League Revised Evaluation Sessions

All players must attend the one evaluation session based upon the first letter of their last name.  Players should arrive 15 minutes early to check-in and receive jersey numbers prior to the start of each session.  If you son or daughter can not attend their assigned evaluation session, they may attend the other regular session for their grade or attend the make up evaluation session.  We would like to stress that you should try to avoid the make-up evaluation night!  Our make-up evaluation nights are very crowded and congested - so try to come prior to the make-up days.

The FSBL Is Looking for Coaches for the Winter Season!

The Farmwell Station Basketball League relies on approximately 180 parents and young adults who volunteer their time each year to coach our Ashburn youth players!  We will have approximately 850 players registered for the league this season.  We are now actively recruiting Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches to work with the players in the league this season.  Registration is now open on our website for all Coaching applicants.  All of our coaches (both Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches) go through a background check performed by the National Center for Safety Initiatives.

If you know any friends in Ashburn (or anywhere locally) who might like to coach a basketball team this winter, have them sign up to coach.  Father / Son and Mother / Daughter coaching tandems are definitely welcome.  Former FSBL players in the league who are now in college or who have graduated college and live in the area are also a great fit for the league.  You don't have to have a player in the league to coach a team. We would love to welcome back parents who coached in the league 5 or more years ago. We need coaches for both the boys and girls divisions.

If you have a good knowledge of basketball, but you've never coached, now is the time to give it a try by coaching in our House Leagues.  All great coaches started somewhere!  The FSBL provides Coach's Training days in November where our clinicians will provide you with drills you can use on the courts.

Please step up and Coach this season!

Win or lose, all the kids who play in the league win when we have good coaches on the sidelines working with our players.  Practices begin in November.

Youth Sports 101

Your child's success or lack of success in sports does not indicate what kind of parent you are.

But having an athlete who is coachable, respectful, a great teammate, mentally tough, resilient and tries their best IS a direct reflection of your parenting.

Do You Love Basketball?

Sportsmanship
Something to think about while watching your son or daughter play in FSBL games this season:

1.  These are kids.

2.  Basketball is a
      game.

3.  Parents should
      cheer for
      everyone!

4.  The referees are
      human and some
      times make
      mistakes.

5.  Your child is not a
      professional
      athlete playing
      for a million
      dollars ..... yet!

If you disagree with these statements, please contact FSBL Commissioner, Craig Newman:
commish@fsbl.orgHe'd be happy to explain them to you!

FSBL Rule 7.c

Parents are required to notify the FSBL Board Of Directors, within forty-eight (48) hours, when their child is suspended or expelled from school. If the BOD is not notified within forty-eight (48) hours of any such suspension/expulsion then upon discovery the child will be expelled from FSBL immediately for the remainder of the current season and the entire next season.

Wear RecSpecs!
If your son or daughter wears regular eye glasses to see like those pictured below, they are not permitted to be worn in practices or games in the FSBL. Before the season begins, please have your player fitted for a pair of RecSpecs or another brand of prescription sport goggles.
